Roses From The Heart
Sew a bonnet and be part of history. 25,266 bonnets made with empathy for convict woman who endured much received so little recognition. Their economic and social contribution was enormous, yet the ‘stigma’ shrouding their existence always precluded discussion of their value.
Something special, a rose for an English/Irish rose, uprooted from all that was familiar and dear to them; a heart to show the tribute is made with sincerity and empathy; from descendents, with love; from the public, with empathy.
I hope, we, the community can offer moments of reflection, taking time out from our busy lives to contemplate not only the female convict story but to also scrutinise our own value systems, our levels of judgement, tolerance and acceptance towards others.
Fundraising Drive: For anyone who would like to support the ongoing success and eventual tour of the exhibition both here in Australia, and when we take "The Girls Back Home" to the UK, please purchase the documentary Voices In The Dark.
